School history
There are approximately 300 students and 29 staff members. The school mascot is an alligator (Gore Hill Gators). A contest was held and it was decided to name our mascot, Gus the Gator. Our school colours are blue and yellow.
Prior to 1954, a one room school house was constructed across the road from the present site of the school. In 1954, the original building was constructed. Expansion of the school occurred in 1962 and 1995. The location boasts an expansive playground area that includes green space, an outdoor classroom, a pond and a trail dedicated to a former teacher, Carol Chamberlain. A butterfly garden was also added to the school grounds. A second trail was completed in 2017. A pavilion was constructed in the summer of 2014 to complement the school's greening/play space initiative. The school continues to add a variety of natural elements such as our Gator logs, Gator rocks and more trees to provide shade and opportunities for outdoor activities in our green space.
Gore Hill is a proud Eco-school, boasting of a 8-year record as a certified Gold Eco-School. We have over 100 participants in our Extreme Eco-team, conducting various Environmental Stewardship projects. Our school is fostering a generation of advocates of the environment.
In 2016, the 91次元 Trustees approved a motion to pilot French Immersion in JK/SK at Gore Hill Public School for the 2017-18 school year. The program expanded to include Grade 1 in 2018-19. The program continues to grow as a new grade is added every year up to Grade 8.
Gore Hill is well-known in the Leamington Community. We are proud of our annual participation of variety of community outreach projects such as our Gator Drive, where we collect a variety of items for the Salvation Army's Food Bank. We enjoy being featured regularly in local media as well as maintaining active Facebook and Twitter accounts. We showcase a variety of unique and stimulating learning activities that inspire our students to be active life-long learners.
