What is OYAP?
Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) is a school to work program that allows students to explore and work in apprenticeship occupations starting in Gr. 11 or 12 through cooperative education. Students have the opportunity to become registered apprentices and work towards becoming certified journeypersons in a skilled trade while completing their secondary school diplomas.
How to register for OYAP
1. Register for Co-op. Be sure to choose the proper Co-op option: either 2 Credit Co-op or 4 Credit Co-op depending on your goals.
2. Once you have selected Co-op, a Co-op teacher will reach out to you. They will have you fill out a Co-op form, giving them all the information they need to secure you a placement.
3. Your Co-op teacher will talk to you about whether you are signed up for an Apprenticeable trade and make arrangements with your employer.
