ROXIE (from 鈥楥hicago鈥)鈥You know, I always wanted to have my name on the papers. Before I met Amos, I used to date this wealthy dude, ugly bootlegger. He used to take me out and show me off. Ugly guys like to do that. Once it said in the paper, 鈥済angland is seen with cute blonde.鈥 That was me. You know, all my life I wanted to have my own act. But, no..., they always turned me down. One big world-full of no. And then Amos came along. Sweet Amos. Who never says no. Then I met Fred Casely. He said he could get me into a film. But that didn鈥檛 quite work out like I planned. So I gave up the whole idea. If you can鈥檛 figure out all of these, opportunities just pass you by. But now, with all this publicity, I got a world-full of yes!
MATILDA (from 鈥楳atilda: The Musical鈥)
Once upon a time, the two greatest circus performers in the world 鈥 an escapologist who could escape from any lock that was ever invented, and an acrobat who was so skilled it seemed as if she could actually fly 鈥 fell in love, and got married. They performed some of the most incredible feats together anyone has ever seen. And people would come from miles around: kings! queens! celebrities! and astronauts! And not just to see their skill, but also to see their love for each other, which was so deep that it was said that cats would purr as they passed them, and dogs would weep with joy.
SNOOPY (from 鈥榊ou鈥檙e a Good Man Charlie Brown鈥)鈥℉ere鈥檚 the World War I flying ace high over France in his Sopwith Camel, searching for the infamous Red Baron! I must bring him down! Suddenly, anti-aircraft fire, 鈥渁rchie鈥 we used to call it, begins to burst beneath my plane. The Red Baron has spotted me. Nyahh, Nyahh, Nyahh! You can't hit me! Actually, tough flying aces never say 鈥淣yahh, Nyahh.鈥 I just, ah鈥 Drat this fog! It鈥檚 bad enough to have to fight the Red Baron without having to fly in weather like this. All right, Red Baron! Where are you? You can鈥檛 hide forever!
CAT (from 鈥楽eussical the Musical鈥) I can see that you鈥檝e got quite a mind for your age! Why, one think and you dragged me right onto the stage! Now, I鈥檓 here, there is no telling what may ensue鈥. With a Cat such as me and a Thinker like you! Oh the things you can think! Oh the things you can think if you鈥檙e willing try鈥 Thinking invisible ink! Or a Gink with a stink! Or a stair in the sky If you open your mind, oh, the things you will find, lining up to get loose鈥 Oh, the things you can think when you think about Seuss!
CAPTAIN VON TRAPP (from 鈥楾he Sound of Music鈥)
I鈥檓 Captain von Trapp. You are Fraulein Maria? Now, Fraulein, as to your duties here. You will be in charge of my children. There are seven of them. You will find out how far they have progressed in their studies and carry on from there. Each morning will be spent in the classroom. Each afternoon, they march. You will see that at all times they conduct themselves with decorum and orderliness. The first rule in this house is discipline. Children, this is your new fraulein 鈥 Fraulein Maria. As I sound your signal you will step forward and repeat your name. You, Fraulein, will listen and learn their signals so that you can call them when you want them.
REN (from 鈥楩ootloose: The Musical鈥): We both are. You and me. We鈥檝e both lost somebody. And even though people say they understand, they don鈥檛 really. I bet you stop a hundred times a day and wonder 鈥渨hy?鈥 I do. I wonder why鈥檇 my Dad leave? Was it something I did? Something I didn鈥檛 do? Could I have made him stay? Maybe I could bring him back? But I can鈥檛. But I don鈥檛 have to tell you. You know what that鈥檚 like. So, I guess I came to town frustrated and angry, and it felt really good to kick up a fuss. And I know it got people upset, and I鈥檓 sorry for that. But I鈥檓 just trying to move on. Cuz I鈥檓 so tired of looking back. And I can鈥檛 stand still. Okay, look, I鈥檓 gonna go.
