Students in the Music Theatre program will receive comprehensive training in all aspects of Music Theatre. As part of their coursework, they will participate in WCCA’s full-scale musical, rehearsing during the school day alongside the Orchestra course. The primary focus of the Music Theatre course is to rehearse and produce a full-length musical.
In addition to the Music Theatre course, students will receive training in Vocal, Drama, and Dance, depending on their grade level. Dance training will occur every year during Early Morning sessions. Drama and Vocal training will alternate each grade level, enhancing students’ skills and preparing them for post-secondary opportunities.
Music Theatre Courses
Grade 9
AMT 1OW – Music Theatre Vocal Focus
Students in this course will be working to rehearse and perform WCCA’s full length musical for that school year. Students will be working with all Grade levels and a variety of instructors to prepare all aspects of the production. Available to Music Theatre Students only.
ADA 1OW – Drama
This course provides opportunities for students to explore dramatic forms and techniques, using material from a wide range of sources and cultures. Students will use the elements of drama to examine situations and issues that are relevant to their lives. Students will create, perform, discuss, and analyze drama. This course requires students to create and perform in dramatic presentations. Available to Drama and Music Theatre Students.
ATC 1OW – Dance
This course covers all styles of dance, aiming to improve dancers’ technical abilities while introducing anatomy and dance history. Available to Dance and Music Theatre students.
Grade 10
ADB 2OW – Music Theatre Drama Focus
Students in this course will be working to rehearse and perform WCCA’s full length musical for that school year. Students will be working with all Grade levels and a variety of instructors to prepare all aspects of the production. Available to Music Theatre Students only.
AMV 2OW – Vocal
This course emphasizes the performance of vocal music at a level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill and is aimed at developing technique, sensitivity, and imagination. Students will develop musical literacy skills by using the creative and critical analysis processes in composition, performance, and a range of reflective and analytical activities. Available to Vocal and Music Theatre students.
ATC 2OW – Dance
Building on the Grade 9 course, this class continues to improve dancers’ technical abilities and expands on anatomy and dance history. Available to Dance and Music Theatre students.
Grade 11
AMT 3MW – Music Theatre Vocal Focus
Students in this course will be working to rehearse and perform WCCA’s full length musical for that school year. Students will be working with all Grade levels and a variety of instructors to prepare all aspects of the production. Available to Music Theatre Students only.
ADA 3MW – Drama
This course requires students to create and to perform dramatic presentations. Students will analyze, interpret and perform works of drama from various cultures. Students will also do research on different acting styles and conventions for their presentations, create original works and analyze the functions of playwright, director, actor, producer, designer, technician and audience. Available to Drama and Music Theatre Students.
ATC 3MW – Dance
This course continues to improve dancers’ technical abilities, with further expansion on anatomical understanding and dance history. Available to Dance and Music Theatre students.
Grade 12
ADB 4MW – Music Theatre Drama Focus
Students in this course will be working to rehearse and perform WCCA’s full length musical for that school year. Students will be working with all Grade levels and a variety of instructors to prepare all aspects of the production. Available to Music Theatre Students only.
AMV 4MW – Vocal
This course enables students to enhance their musical literacy through the creation, appreciation, analysis, and performance of vocal music. Students will perform traditional, commercial, and art music. Students will enhance their understanding of the function of music in society and the impact of music on themselves and various communities and cultures. Students will prepare a variety of solos for a final recital as part of their final summative evaluation. Available to Vocal and Music Theatre Students.
ATC 4MW – Dance
This course aims to further improve dancers’ technical abilities, expanding on anatomical language and kinesthetic analysis of movement. Students will conduct research on various elements of dance history. Available to Dance and Music Theatre students.
